1947 Co-Op Model E-3 Featured in a Presidential Campaign
Jul 31, 2012
This tractor was featured for the month of August in the Classic Farm Tractor Calendar.
With the cessation of World War II in 1945, U.S. farmers were a ready market for new tractors. This tractor was built in Canada by Cockshutt, and marketing by National Farm Machinery Cooperative. Its features included the first live PTO; a 2-3 plow size with 27.25 hp on the drawbar, 31.88 on the pulley; a compact 4 cyl. valve-in-head engine with wet sleeves; high stance for extra clearance in row-crop work, and more speeds than any other tractor on the market in 1947. It must be noted that soon after the Model 3 introduction with Live Power Take Off, all other tractor markers were working on their own versions.
Owners: Linda and Hank Lipps
It was purchased new by Linda’s father, M. Ralph Littler, one of the first in their country. The Littler family restored it. During John McCain’s run for presidency, a rally was held on the Lipp’s farm and the Co-Op tractor was visible in the background on national TV coverage. Bald eagles nest in swampland behind their farm.
