World Record Tractor Parade

Sep 08, 2012

The call went out and tractor enthusiasts from 31 states gathered at the Nebraska State Fair on August 25, 2012 to break a world record for most tractors in a parade. Previously set in Germany in 2008, the record was 745 tractors. The group in Nebraska assembled to total 1,140 tractors.

Despite rain, the parade made its way into the history books. A representative from Guiness World’s Record was on hand to certify all aspects of the world record. In order to qualify, each tractor must be at least 30 years old and have provided the VIN/Serial number.
The full spectrum of tractor brands was represented from John Deere, Ford, International Harvester, Oliver, Massey-Harris, Minneapolis Moline and more. The models ranged from fully restored to fresh out of the field.
Organizers closed registration for the parade about a week before the event because they already had more than 1,000 tractors registered and they weren't sure they could accommodate any more. The Fonner Park track and per the rules for the world record, the distance traveled must total 2 miles, or four times around the track. The vintage machines were lined up three or four rows wide, and it took about three hours to complete the record.
RFD-TV and RURAL TV broadcast the parade “live”, which was hosted by farm broadcaster and tractor-enthusiast Max Armstrong.
The furthest distance traveled was a tractor that came 1,700 miles from Harrisburg, Ore.
