AgWeb Editor Greg Vincent takes a big-picture look at agriculture and current events.
The way things look now we're really setting ourselves us for a "surprise" of sorts. So far we have the USDA, FAPRI and Allendale estimating a very small change in corn acres. We've had a pretty prominent seed corn sales company estimate corn acres to stay close to last year as well. Informa seems to be the only group that sees a substantial cut in corn acres.
Most farmers I've spoken with are still leaving themselves room to change their mind at a later date. With the way the soy market's crumbled as of late it looks like weather could be the final determining factor.
I think there is a swing back to corn this week. Fear is too many beans = even lower bean price and it looks like more upside potential for corn
