Corn Already Planted in Illinois?
Mar 08, 2012
A rumor on Twitter
that corn was planted west of Champaign, Ill., yesterday left quite a few of our followers questioning the risk versus reward of planting corn prior to insurance eligibility. I called Farm Journal's risk management columnist, Moe Russell, to find out the scoop.
He says that the potential slight advantage of getting corn in the ground early is not worth the huge risk associated with ineligibility for replant insurance coverage.
Russell says that yesterday, at Farm Journal’s Profit College
, he visited with Kansas farmers who intend to plant corn next week, but he doesn’t think farmers anywhere else in the Corn Belt should consider planting this early.
