From Milk Maid to Miss America

Jan 12, 2012

What happens when a little girl with big dreams applies the years of work ethic she honed on her family's dairy farm to making her dreams come true? She competes for Miss America of course!

Miss Oklahoma, Betty Thompson, is not your average Miss America contestant. With her platform, "Milk it really does a body good," she is not only smart, pretty and poised, but she has an incredible work ethic, can milk cows with the best of them and can even place the toughest class of Jerseys in a dairy judging competition.

I had the privelage of becoming friends with Betty through dairy science club and working on the dairy while we were both at Oklahoma State University and I assure you that she would make an excellent spokesperson for the dairy industry and for all of agriculture should she win the title of Miss America 2012. Here's a behind the scenes video of Betty:

Today is the last day to vote for Betty on the MIss America Website's video contest. Yes this is a shameless plug for you to vote for my friend. Vote for her, cheer her on and help her continue the work that Miss America 2011 Teressa Scanlan started by being a solid role model for young girls and for helping your voice be heard by the masses.

Cheers to Betty! We are all very proud of this small town farm girl with HUGE dreams!
