I suspect that alot of farmers are FALSELY answering these surveys. I would not tell anyone my intimate details of my operation. It doesn't take much fudged figures to make a difference. If we all reported even just 5% off of what was really there, think about the ramnifications! Also remember the farmer at the coffee shop does not even tell his neighbors/friends (read that as business competitor) his real yields, etc b/c he may be shooting himself in the foot when he has a chance at renting more ground! Too bad the USDA isn't smart enough to put themselves in an actual farmers shoes.
The only reason they raised corn arces is they have to try to get demand under control
I agree with both Anons, however, I think USDA is dumb like a fox. I think they report in accordance with the cheap food policy in the US and farmers be damned.
