Please don't rain on my parade!
Dec 04, 2010
I have never been lucky enough to win big when it comes to the lottery. “Oh,” you’re probably saying, “Well, Leigh, don’t you have to buy a lottery ticket in order to win?” That’s true; I don’t play the lottery and really have no interest in gambling either. (I am perfectly capable of losing my money the old fashioned way...by investing in the stock market.) Anyway, I also rarely enter contests or win prizes. (Unless of course you count winning the hand of my lovely wife.) I can’t remember if I have ever won an award or even a trophy. (It would have helped if I played little league.) So imagine my surprise when I was asked by a prominent local Rotarian to be the official guest of honor in this year’s Santa Maria Parade of Lights (http://www.smparadeoflights.com/)

The first thing I thought was , “Who, me?!.. There must be some mistake!” But apparently there was no mistake. I must say I’m a bit flattered by the attention. While this isn’t the first time I have been in a parade (see the above story link for details), this will be the first time I will be driven in a parade. Of course my lovely wife, (there, I said it twice...major brownie points for me!), will be right next to me and she has some major parade experience. She was a homecoming princess in high school so she will have to show me the proper way to perform the "royal wave." (She also tap-danced down a major boulevard in a parade once but she probably wouldn’t want me to mention that...Oops, I just did!... Major loss of brownie points!) Now this all sounds like fun you say, but what if it rains? Yes, there is a possibility of precipitation in the forecast so I have been advised to bring my umbrella, which is a really good idea as my incredibly lovely wife, (just recouped all those lost brownie points and more!), and I will be riding in a convertible. But it doesn’t really matter, rain or shine I already feel like a winner! Well, I had better go. The parade is in just a few hours and I have a lot of royal-waving to practice.
