1960 John Deere 4010
Aug 09, 2010
This tractor was featured for the month of August in the 2010 Classic Farm Tractor Calendar.
Fifty years ago, on Aug. 30 1960, to be exact, it was Deere Day in Dallas. Some 5,670 dealers and a thousand guests were flown into Dallas the day before. The purpose was to introduce “The New Generation of Power,” a brand new series of tractor with four- and six-cylinder engines and a new design. Deere President Billy Hewitt spoke first, and soon dealers were inspecting 136 new tractors and 223 green implements in the Cotton Bowl parking lot. The 4010 Model proved to be the darling of the 10 Series, mostly because of its power and price. The diesel version rated 84 hp, gas 80.96 hp. Basic row crop model was listed a tad over $4,100. This is the first 4010 John Deere Diesel, serial #1000, a prime example from the Keller Collection.
