The deadline is fast approaching for new FFA grant program focused on hunger relief. Students have until Dec. 15 to submit FFA: Food for All grant applications.

 

FFA: Food for All is a joint effort uniting the Farm Journal Foundation’s Farmers Feeding the World initiative and the National FFA Organization’s Feeding the World Starting at home program with matched funding from the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. The new grant program aims to help 130-160 FFA chapters across the country start hunger relief initiatives in their local communities, across America or around the world by providing up to $2,500 to each chapter.   

 

Whether it is raising laying chickens to donate eggs to the local food bank or providing a hospital with fresh produce from a community garden, FFA members will use their service learning opportunities to feed the hungry.

 

"FFA members are the future farmers, ranchers, scientists and agribusiness leaders who will feed our growing world population," says Farm Journal Foundation Chairman Andy Weber. "Through this new partnership, FFA members will waste no time by starting to eradicate hunger in their local communities while they are still in school- and Farmers Feeding the World looks to help give them the tools they need to succeed."

 

Successful projects will occur from February through November 2012. Grant applications are due Dec. 15, 2011 and can be found at www.ffa.org/Foodforall. Funding will be announced the week of Feb. 6, 2011.
