One in 6 Americans is food insecure. Even more shocking is that 1 in 4 children lives in a food-insecure household. Given the current state of the economy, it is going to take a while for these numbers to decrease
But hunger is not a problem unique to the developing world. In 2008, 49 million individuals and 17.1 million households were found to be food insecure in the United States. This is such a large number of hungry individuals, considering we live in the most abundant food-producing country in the world.
Farmers Feeding the World has a goal of feeding 5,000,000 people in the U.S.
This will be done through partnerships with such organizations as Feeding America.
