The Farm Journal Foundation announced today that its nonprofit initiative Farmers Feeding the World is making its largest single commitment to date, commiting $1 million to Heifer International.
Heifer International is committed to helping underdeveloped areas in the U.S. and developing countries around the world gain footing in agriculture production to benefit their economies. Together, Heifer International and Farmers Feeding the world will identify communities that would significantly benefit from the gift of livestock in addition to training in the areas of animal husbandry and smallholder farming.
The grant will help fund sustainable hunger relief projects already in action such as Heifer’s Seeds of Change in Appalachia and the Arkansas Delta, Rural Entrepreneurs for Agricultural Cooperation in Haiti (REACH), Integrated Livestock Development in Sierra Leone, and the Small Farmer Project that develops smallholder agriculture in Armenia.

"Heifer is one of the most effective and efficient NGOs in the world in the fight against hunger and is totally in sync with our mission to rally American farmers and ranchers to help solve world hunger."
Many of the 1 billion people living in chronic hunger today are small farmers in the developing world. Partnering together, Farmers Feeding the World and Heifer International are giving thousands of families around the globe and in the U.S. the tools to pull themselves out of poverty permanently.
