The official Top Producer of the Year ceremony (as presented by Greg Vincent during the official banquet):
Now, we'll move to the boot heel of Missouri and check in on Donny and Christi DeLine.
Donny's transition to farm management is a very interesting one. He grew up in Arkansas but the Missouri farm that was in his farm for four generations always called him back each summer. After college in the mid-1990s he and Christi settled in Missouri to begin farming with Donny's uncle on about 2,000 acres. Shortly after arriving Donny's uncle saw the potential he had and they began a transition for Donny to take over the full operation.
Today the farm that mostly grows corn, soybeans and small grains, with some cotton and the occasional rice crop thrown in has grown to nearly 20,000 acres in four states…including an island in the Mississippi River just outside of Memphis, Tenn.
But family is extremely important to both Donny and Christi from the fact that going against convention of the son bringing his dad into the operation to the 5 year old son who is already planning his own farming career right down to the four farms that are models of dad's. But instead of the Tennessee farm being on an island in a river, the Tennessee farm is under the dining room table.
