On a gravel raod along the Little Sioux River, a parade of Allis-Chalmers tractors rolls toward the Gathering of the Orange, held in Albert City, IA Threshermen and Collectors Shows.
In the lead is Lynn Bushards’s 1953 WD, Garfield, MN; behind him Sheridan Hansen’s rare 1939 WC High Crop, Cedar City, UT; then Don Slick’s 1958 D-14 tricycle, Mt. Carroll, IL.
Then comes Arlo Anderson’s 1949 WD, Leonard, ND; following by Jim Lunneborg’s 1949 WD with flags a flyin’, Rutland, ND; the tractor with orange topper is Jim Braglof’s 1961 D-15, Spencer, IA.
These guys are in the middle of the pack of some 30 Allis-Chalmers making the trek across three states from Madison, SD, through southwestern Minnesota and into Northwest Iowa to literally Gather the Orange.
A revered 1955 WD-45, owned by Jim Roney, Oakes, ND, had trekked 950 miles from Ashton, UT to the Rollag, MN, Gathering of the Orange. He has since ridden it on all three legs of the Oakes-Manitoba-Oakes-Madison-Albert City odyssey. Plus, in between it has been to Wisconsin, across Lake Michigan on a ferry, and all around the Allis-Chalmers factory at West Allis, Wisc., and on to another Gathering at Union Grove, Wisc.

“As long as A-C collectors are around, the Allis-Chalmers brand will be alive and loved,” says collector Dean.
