Protect Your Wiring
Skyrocketing metal prices are encouraging thieves to steal valuable copper wire from center pivot irrigation systems. To deter thieves, Lindsay Corporation, maker of Zimmatic irrigation systems, now offers the CopperCuff. The 11-gauge, galvanized steel band, designed to fit all major brands of irrigation systems, encircles the pipe and securely clamps down the copper cable. Multiple cuffs on each span make it clear to would-be thieves that this system cannot be stripped without a great deal of time and effort. Easy to
install on a full system in less than an hour, CopperCuff can save growers 10 times the average cost of repairing a theft-damaged pivot. For more information, contact your local Zimmatic dealer, call (800) 829-5300 or visit www.coppercuff.com.

Online Help to Increase Yields

StollerUSA has unveiled an inter-active Web site at bio-forge.com to increase awareness of the Bio-Forge product line. Farmers select the crop and the stress challenge they are facing, from  temperature and weather extremes to herbicide damage or insects and pests. A Web site animation then demonstrates how Bio-Forge impacts the chosen crop in their specific situation. Discussion between farmers is encouraged on a blog section where popular topics and issues are posted.
The site also includes an overview of Stoller's proprietary technology, which works to maximize the genetic expression that is already in a plant while nullifying the impact of stress issues. The site details the university research that confirms the results seen in various field trials. During the 2008 crop year, Bio-Forge was applied to more than 250,000 acres of corn and soybeans. Tree Manager
Sidney Manufacturing has new Timberline Tree Shears for selectively removing unwanted trees. The Timberline HTC-14 and TBL-1000 Tree Shears rotate 110° after the cut to serve as a grapple to lift, wrangle and carry the fallen tree. The tree can then be easily cut into load-size or firewood-size pieces with the tree shear.

Timberline Tree Shears utilize a pin-up style mount or universal coupler to attach to existing tractors, skid steers or mini-excavators, adding versatility to existing farm equipment. A Better Rat Trap

The Wise Trap, from the Danish company WiseCon, provides efficient rat control in drainage and sewage systems without using poison—even in the case of severe rodent infestations. When a rat attempts to pass the trap, its movement and body heat triggers sensors that release spears to immediately kill the animal. The spears then return to the original position and are again ready for operation. The dead rat is flushed out by the drainage/sewage water.
The trap, calibrated to the dimensions of the pipe, is installed from the ground level. Traps are controlled by an electronic unit positioned under the cesspool cover that sends notification of operational stops, overflow and low battery level. It also notifies you when there have been no occurrences in a specified period so the trap can be relocated. Contact: WiseCon A/S,  www.wisecon.com.
