As soon as their crops are in the ground, two lucky farm families will engage in a one-of-a-kind Farm Journal Media project, the Ultimate Farm Quest. The effort matches the producers with a team of experts who will help them raise the bar for their respective operations and reach the next level of success with their management and production practices.
The project centers around two high-profile case studies that will document the experience—and the outcomes—as the producers apply today's best practices.
"Our goal is to provide a game-changing opportunity to two top farmers that will focus on addressing the economic, agronomic and technological issues that are the key factors in farm sustainability,” says Charlene Finck, who organized the effort for Farm Journal Media.
Through the leadership provided by an Advisory Dream Team made up of industry experts, the Farm Quest families will address all aspects of their operation with these end goals:
- Increase yields
- Save time and money
- Increase efficiency
- Improve margins
- Improve sustainability
The advisers will visit the farms, dig into the details, establish a baseline and then formulate a plan to help the producers move to the next level. From there, they will follow the progress and provide coaching throughout the quest for success.

The Advisory Dream Team
The two farm families taking part in the Ultimate Farm Quest will work with a team of advisers who will focus on the following areas.
- Agronomy: Farm Journal Associate Field Agronomist Missy Bauer will assist the two farm families with their production, crop scouting and crop management decisions.
- Technology: Experts from our Farm Journal Test Plots team will consult on technologies that enhance application management and cost savings.
- Economic: Pro Farmer Editor Chip Flory will advise on marketing and risk management strategies.
