From the Office to the Field
To help keep timely and active farm records, Trimble rolls out its EZ-Office 2010 suite of software products. In the office, EZ-View, EZ-Office and EZ-Office Pro provide data management, while in the field EZ-Office Mobile software pairs with handheld computers. A free product from Trimble, the EZ-View application allows farmers to view, modify and print data records collected by Trimble displays. Trimble EZ-Office 2010 combines mapping with data importing, exporting and analysis. The newest feature is the addition of Google Maps as a background image and the support of other imagery services.
Trimble EZ-Office Pro 2010 has additional capabilities of prescription mapping, multiyear yield map averaging and integration of financial data for profit map analysis. For mobile applications, EZ-Office Mobile 2010 software can be used on the Trimble Nomad or the Juno SB field computer. Prices: EZ-Office 2010 software, $850 (includes an Update Service Plan); EZ-Office Pro 2010 is an additional $400 (EZ-Office is required); EZ-Office Mobile 2010 is bundled with a Nomad handheld at $2,800 or a Juno SB handheld at $1,425. Row Unit Control Expands
The automated planter row unit control RowCommand is available for John Deere chain-driven planters. Operators of chain-driven planters can install an in-field RowCommand conversion attachment to achieve individual row unit control. The system controls seed delivery by automatically engaging and disengaging the chain-drive clutch on each row unit based on GPS field maps and boundaries. Planter swath control reduces overlap in point rows and on the headlands. Compatible models include: 12-row narrow, 12-row wide and 16-row narrow 1720 models; 12-row narrow 1760 models; 12-row narrow 1770 models; 12-, 16- and 24-row narrow 1770NT models; CCS 12-, 16- and 24-row narrow 1770NT models; and 24-row 22" DB 44 models. RowCommand requires a GreenStar 2 1800 or 2600 display and SeedStar 2 monitoring system. Visit a John Deere dealer or www.johndeere.com/ag.
Collaboration Provides Precision
Hemisphere GPS partners with Third Eye Maps to integrate their technologies: Hemisphere GPS guidance and flow control systems with Third Eye Maps' vegetation mapping and land management. Third Eye Maps uses infrared camera systems to generate aerial imagery and maps used to determine vegetation growth indices and nutrient and irrigation irregularities. For land management, imagery aids in the recognition of invasive species and provides other vegetation identification that can be used for targeted management. The captured imagery data is postprocessed and formatted into digital files that are compatible with most GPS-assisted spray systems, including the Hemisphere GPS Air IntelliFlow and IntelliGate liquid and dry-flow control systems. Working together, the companies combined their technologies to develop a way for valuable data to be used in conjunction with automated spray applications. Operators can now determine spray areas as small as one-tenth of an acre and can use the information in turning a sprayer on and off or with full variable-rate treatment in aerial or ground applicators.
