A Midwest custom applicator is the winner of AGCO Application Equipment’s 2012 Operator of the Year Award. Glen Slabaugh works for Clunette Elevator Company in Leesburg, Ind.

Slabaugh recently applied his 1 millionth acre and has been working in the application business for 37 years. As part of his award, he received a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was honored Nov. 28 during the Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA) Conference and Expo in San Diego, Calif.

"Glen is known all throughout our community and customer base, and everyone has the same opinion that he is an honest, caring and hard-working servant,"says Clunette certified crop adviser Jared Haughee , who nominated Slabaugh. In addition to working in agriculture, the custom applicator has been head deacon of his church for nearly 10 years, has served as a Sunday school teacher and has volunteered his time visiting patients in nursing homes.

The three other finalists also attended the ARA expo. They are Paul "Rocky" Lang of CHS, Inc., in Royal City, Wash.; Carl Petersen of Crop Production Services in Pipestone, Minn.; and Paul Folden, of Garrison Farmers Union Elevator in Garrison, N.D.

The Operator of the Year competition is in its seventh year and is open to custom applicators in the U.S. and Canada. A panel of judges evaluates the candidates on their commitment to the profession, performance in the field and community involvement. More information is available by going to applylikeapro.com.
