In addition to working in agriculture, the custom applicator has been head deacon of his church for nearly 10 years, has served as a Sunday school teacher and has volunteered his time visiting patients in nursing homes.
The three other finalists also attended the ARA expo. They are Paul "Rocky" Lang of CHS, Inc., in Royal City, Wash.; Carl Petersen of Crop Production Services in Pipestone, Minn.; and Paul Folden, of Garrison Farmers Union Elevator in Garrison, N.D.
The Operator of the Year competition is in its seventh year and is open to custom applicators in the U.S. and Canada.
