TODAY ON AGDAY

DECEMBER 30, 2013

PEDV OUTBREAK:

GOOD MORNING I'M TYNE MORGAN IN FOR CLINTON GRIFFITHS. WE FINALLY GET OUR FIRST GLIMPSE INTO JUST HOW BAD PEDV IS HURTING PIG NUMBERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

PEDV VACCINE:

A PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY OUT OF AMES, IOWA IS SEEKING BROADER LICENSE FOR ITS PEDV VIRUS. THAT'S ACCORDING TO REUTERS. THE COMPANY CALLED HARRISVACCINES HAS ALREADY SHIPPED 770 THOUSAND OF IT'S 'I-P-E-D" VACCINE SINCE THE VIRUS WAS FIRST DETECTED THIS SPRING

PAUL’S TAX TIPS:

TODAY'S TAX TIP IS ALL ABOUT CROP INSURANCE. IN 2012, MOST CROP INSURANCE CLAIMS WERE TIED TO YIELD. IN 2013, ALL BUT PREVENT PLANT CLAIMS WERE RELATED TO PRICE. TAX EXPERT PAUL NEIFFER TALKS ABOUT WHAT FARMERS CAN DO TO STILL DEFER THAT INTO THE NEW YEAR.

CROP WATCH:

THOUSANDS OF HOMEOWNERS ARE STILL FEELING THE AFFECTS OF AN ICE STORM THAT HIT BEFORE CHIRSTMAS. CINDI CLAWSON HAS MORE IN CROPWATCH. GOOD MORNING CINDI.

COLOMBIA LIVESTOCK:

AS 2013 DRAWS TO A CLOSE, ONE OF THE FEW BRIGHT SPOTS IN THE AMERICAN ECONOMY THIS YEAR HAS BEEN EXPORTS OF AGRICULTURE PRODUCTS. USDA SAID IN NOVEMBER THAT THE FINAL TALLY FOR THE MARKETING YEAR WAS 141-BILLION DOLLARS - A RECORD HIGH.

ONE EXPORT MARKET SHOWING POTENTIAL FOR U-S SOYBEANS IS COLOMBIA WHICH IS TRYING TO GROW ITS LIVESTOCK SECTOR. AGDAY REGIONAL REPORTER MICHELLE ROOK TRAVELED TO SOUTH AMERICA WITH A GROUP OF U-S SOYBEAN GROWERS TO LOOK AT THIS EXPORT OPPORTUNITY.

MACHINERY PETE:

IT'S THAT TIME OF THE SEASON WHENE WE LIKE TO REFLECT ON THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE YEAR. MACHINERY PETE IS NO DIFFERENT AS HE REFLECTS ON THE TOP TRACTORS SOLD AT AUCTION IN 2013.

RUSSIA GMO CROPS:

IN AGRIBUSINESS, RUSSIA IS GIVING THE OKAY FOR FARMERS TO GENETICALLY MODIFIED CROPS.

ANALYSIS:

WITH SOUTH AMERICAN PRODUCTION IN FULL SWING, ALL EYES ARE ON THE WEATHER SOUTH OF THE BORDER. TODAY WE GET A GLIMPSE INTO THE CURRENT SITUATION.

CARE OF THE WILD:

AS WE HEAD TOWARDS A NEW YEAR HAVE YOU MADE A GOAL TO CHANGE JOBS IN 2014? PERHAPS YOU'LL FOLLOW THE PATH THAT WILL LEAD YOU TO THAT DREAM JOB? MANY OF US STRIVE FOR A DREAM JOB, BUT FEW FULFILL IT. HOWEVER, A FORMER UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI STUDENT IS THE EXCEPTION. SHE'S LIVING HER DREAM IN A ZOO...SO TO SPEAK.

IN THIS REPORT PROVIDED BY THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI EXTENSION, KENT FADDIS TELLS US HOW SHE GOT THERE.

PENNSYLVANIA DAIRY INJUCTION:

IN FOOD AND YOUR FAMILY, A PERMANENT INJUCTION HAS BEEN PLACED AGAINST  PENNSYLVANIA DAIRY FIRMS THAT ARE ALLEGED OF DISTRIBUTING PRODUCTS THAT CONTAIN EXCESSIVE DRUG RESIDUE.

RADISH HOLIDAY:

YOU MIGHT "DECK THE HALLS" WITH A CHRISTMAS TREE, MISTLETOE AND POINSETTIA, BUT IN OH-HOCK-UH, MEXICO, THEY USE RADISHES AS A SPECIAL SYMBOL OF THE SEASON.
