Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association Working to Make State Assistance Available to Producers Affected by Recent Storm

April 29, 2014

The Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association began working with Gov. Mike Beebe and Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Butch Calhoun yesterday morning to declare a State of Emergency for counties affected by recent severe storm damage.

An emergency declaration by the Governor would pave the way for the potential appropriation of relief funding for cattle producers affected by Sunday’s storm.

"Once an emergency declaration has been issued by the Governor’s office, we will be able to begin working with local Farm Service Agencies to open up livestock indemnity and assistance programs," said Adam McClung, executive vice president of the Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association.

Should the emergency declaration be issued, producers will need to prove losses to be eligible for assistance. Affected producers should begin to prepare documentation of their losses caused by the storm at this time. For best documentation, include detailed written records and pictures of any expired livestock or physical damage to structures, fences and equipment.

"Our hearts go out to all those affected by yesterday’s tornadoes and we want to offer our thoughts and prayers. This is an opportunity for the State of Arkansas to come together and lift each other up. As for producers, we will lead the effort in helping you restore normalcy back in your lives," McClung said.

More information will be available on this issue as news develops.
