A 70-minute DVD produced by profi takes you along for the journey as a JCB Fastrac and Krone Big Pack baler harvest across the western U.S.
America and road trips go together like peanut butter and, well, pretty much anything. One recent road trip took Niklas Beindorf on a six-month adventure across the western U.S., demonstrating the harvesting power of a JCB Fastrac and Krone Big Pack baler.
The whole thing has been captured on a DVD (see the box below for details on how to get a free copy). Here’s a sample of what the harvesting tour encountered on the 10,000-mile trip.
Tests of endurance. Beindorf’s epic trip began down south at the Mexican border. From there, he tracked up the West Coast to Oregon, crossed Utah, speared through Colorado and finished deep in the heartland of Kansas. Though the majority of people would go on such a trip by car or camper van, Beindorf went by JCB Fastrac 8250 and Krone Big Pack 1290 baler.
The sheer distance of the journey wasn’t the only test of endurance: Beindorf, a Krone Germany employee, was also faced with baling up endless acres of alfalfa.
Ride along. The story begins with the alfalfa harvest in southern California, along the patrolled fence separating Mexico from the U.S. In fact, the border fence is visible as the baler travels down the windrows in the field. Then Beindorf winds all the way north to Washington State and the breath-taking backdrop of snowcapped Mount Adams, the second highest peak in the Cascade Mountains.
Along the way, Beindorf and the team from Krone North America visit farms that milk 5,800 cows and feed 85,000 cattle, and watch a dealer load big bales destined for Saudi Arabia. These bales are some of the 300,000 big bales that find their way to Saudi sheiks.
Then the team heads to the Great Plains of Kansas, once home to the bison but now one of the world’s most important grain producing areas.
What do you do with big square bales of corn stover? Watch the DVD to find out. You’ll also discover what it’s like to have a crop-duster airplane buzz just feet above your head, make the acquaintance of some "base jumpers" (fearless thrill seekers who parachute from highway bridges) and learn how, with a little assistance from vapor, you can extract valuable oil from chopped dill.
The winding journey of the Fastrac and Big Pack takes in some of the wilder parts of the U.S. This is no ordinary road-trip movie: Big farming, amazing landscapes, wide skies and the occasional oddball all come together to make this 70-minute DVD something out of the ordinary.
