Best Lime for Fields is Pure, Fine

Corn College TV Episode 3 Segment 4

When it comes to finding the best lime for your fields, look for purity and fineness, Farm Journal associate field agronomist Missy Bauer tells Corn College TV Season 3.

"The purity gives us an idea of the chemical analysis and its ability to actually neutralize," Bauer says in Episode 3. "The fineness goes back to how coarse or fine the actual lime is itself. So very coarse lime, you’ll see a lot of almost pebbles in here, more stone-like. The finest part of it will be very much like a powder. "

A sieve analysis with varying mesh sizes can help a grower determine whether lime is fine enough to quickly adjust pH levels in the ground.
