John Deere rolled out one of the most comprehensive portfolio of hay and forage equipment the company has ever seen. The release of the L Series Square Balers with High-Capacity Rotor, began with John Deere’s partnership with Kuhn in May 2011.

"Kuhn is a great dealer and partner," says Jeremy Unruh, product line manager, Ottumwa Works. "We took the original design to help us out of the gate and then changed more than 85% of it to fit the needs of the North American market."

Both high-capacity balers, the L330 and L340, are designed to produce dense, well-shaped bales across various field conditions. The machines feature a heavy-duty drivetrain with a 45 stroke-per-minute gear box to transfer power to other components. The L330 has a 83-inch working width and produces 3- by 3-ft. square bales. The L340 has a 90-inch working width and produces 3- by 4-ft. square bales.

The square balers are gear and shaft driven which ensure they are in time and increase the lifetime of the components. To hear more about the main components of the machine, watch Louis Fernandex, senior marketing representative, in the video below.

The square balers were designed with many industry-leading features to make the process efficient from start to finish. Both models have a heavy-duty single-fork system that compresses the crop tightly before transferring the hay into the bale case. Built with on-board hydraulic density controls, the in-cab monitors control the hydraulic pressure on the cylinders against the bale case. To ensure consistent, well-shaped bales the L330 is equipped with three hydraulic cylinders and the L340 has four hydraulic cylinders.

To improve efficiency in the knotter drive system, both models are equipped with double-tie knotters. Fernandex uses a single knotter in the video below to demonstrate the features of the system, including an integrated lubrication system and wiper plate.

Other features include:

  • Hydraulic-operated knotter cleaning fans
  • Hydraulic roller chute
  • ISOBUS electronics, provides compatibility with JDLink software and GreenStar displays
  • Optional precutter (L330: 10 knives, L340: 23 knives)
  • Electronic knotter flags

The square balers are being built in Ottumwa, IA and available for the 2015 hay season. For more information on the L Series Square Balers, visit www.JohnDeere.com/Ag.

More over priced equipment. It is impossible for one to ever pay for this stuff through using it. If we have an extended period of low prices JD and the other manufacturers are going to be in for a nasty surprise.

"Unprecedented" line of hay equipment at unprecedented prices. It is simply impossible to pay for this stuff through using it, it is so vastly overpriced. If low crop prices are here for an extended period, JD and the others are going to be in for a nasty surprise.
