Machinery Makes for Easy Conversation

This past year, my parents moved back to the mid-Missouri community where they once owned a farm. On their return visits through the years, it had been a tradition for a crew of friends to take a picture in front of the tractor my uncle has kept since they were all country neighbors. These images are freeze-frames from decades of friendship. Now with their crew reunited, all the old jokes are told again, and the pictures from years past serve as time capsules. It's no coincidence that the tractor is the focal point in the pictures and in the stories. Machinery always stirs up conversation because it plays a pivotal role in every farm operation and in the lives of farm families.

Not surprisingly, there was plenty to talk about in this first-ever special machinery issue. When the editors at Farm Journal began discussing what to include in an annual machinery guide, my primary goal was for this magazine to be of service throughout the year and fit right in with the books you save for reference.

This guide includes the newest machines with cutting-edge technology to best serve you across your fields. There are reports on machinery trends to help you grasp where the industry is headed. We also included five of the latest tractor tests from our friends at profi.

After you read through this issue, I hope you find it encapsulates an entire year of farm machinery news. Moreover, I hope you value this resource and keep it around.

It might just be like those snapshots cherished by my parents—a way to look back and think about the years to come.
