As the nation’s most respected farm magazine, we feel a keen responsibility to do right by farmers. We have ridden up and down the farm landscape for decades, through the generations of farm families. Our journey led to us rolling out the Farm Journal Legacy Project more than a year ago. Now, we’re taking another key advocacy step.
In one of the most significant developments in our 134-year history, Farm Journal announces the creation of the Farm Journal Foundation and the launch of an industry-wide campaign called Farmers Feeding the World. The campaign, the Foundation’s first effort, serves two key roles: to rally American agriculture against world hunger and to mobilize all of us in the industry as one group to educate the public on the importance of sustainable, commercial agriculture.
It is time for one unified effort—from corner to corner within agriculture, leveraging and working with existing initiatives. Not crop versus livestock farmers or one sector against another. At Farm Journal, we’re in a unique position to act as a “Switzerland,” if you will, and be a trusted neutral voice for producers, agribusiness and all of us.
Our initial goal is to raise $20 million annually from companies, organizations and individuals and plow it into fighting hunger—and fighting for clarity on how important farmers are in feeding the world. We’ll help alleviate hunger through existing organizations and present agriculture’s message through television and Web sites as well as a traveling exhibit that hits the road this spring.
