Raven Industries uses its versatility to its advantage.

Like most companies, Raven Industries develops its products for a particular set of uses. But when it develops products with versatile functionality, such as the Viper Pro field computer or the Slingshot RTK, end customers sometimes find creative and unexpected ways to use them.

"I just heard that we have a Viper actually on trains in Hungary equipped with Slingshot, for weed control along the tracks," says Josh Skanderup, product manager for Slingshot. "We definitely didn’t anticipate a Viper to end up on a train. We also have pineapple plantations now that are using Vipers, which is a lot different than some of the larger acre, large field operations that we’re typically used to operating in."

Hearing about these unusual uses can spark the imagination when developing future versions or upgrades, Skanderup says. So how does Raven use these insights to drive innovation forward? In the video below, Skanderup says it starts with value – and value is a two-way street.
