Help Us Help You

December 28, 2010

A week never goes by that we don’t hear feedback from our readers regarding the Farm Journal Legacy Project. We appreciate the phone calls, e-mails and thousands of “thank yous” we’ve
received. We’re honored to deliver the critical information—and often the inspiration—to help farm families start the succession planning process.

We take the ability and the responsibility to execute the Legacy Project seriously, so we’d like you to take a few moments to fill out the adjacent survey. Your answers will help us get a better handle on how valuable the project’s information has been to date and most importantly, the feedback will guide our future efforts. In short, you can help us help you.

A PDF of the survey is available at www.FarmJournalLegacyProject.com if you’d prefer to download and print it rather than cutting it from your magazine. The digital version also makes it easy for multiple generations to voice their opinions. In fact, we welcome everyone who participates in your farm operation to fill out a survey. The past two years have made it clear that each generation has its own perspective and it is important to factor in multiple viewpoints.

Starting point. The greatest transfer of wealth in the history of American agriculture is about to take place, and startlingly few farmers are prepared to make it happen. That reality made it easy to decide to take action. We did just that in 2008 when we launched the Farm Journal Legacy Project.

Our objective is to address your succession planning demands and provide you with the tools and information needed to begin and execute the daunting process. The effort’s mission is to cultivate multigenerational success in the agriculture community, which means we’re going to make sure the transfer of wealth is achieved for today’s family farms.

Thankfully, our ability to deliver on the project’s promise was increased exponentially in January 2010 when Pioneer Hi-Bred, a DuPont business, presented a grant to expand our efforts. With that philanthropic funding, we were able to immediately add a Legacy Project television show, a workshop series complete with an instructional workbook, a comprehensive website, a weekly eNewsletter and a special Farm Journal issue devoted to succession planning.

The company’s confidence in us, and the commitment to helping farm families is all the more reason we need your input.

Share your viewpoint because every voice counts. We’re dedicated to providing the information you need, when you need it. Just because you submit your survey, don’t stop reaching out. I enjoy hearing your personal stories and am always encouraged when I see so many taking the right steps to leave their legacy.
