With more than 100 years of history in manufacturing ag machinery in Zedelgem, Belgium, New Holland has invested in a new customer center and introduces new harvesting equipment for forage and row crops. The company says it views these investments as a 360 degree approach to the harvesting chain.
At the Zedelgem facilities, New Holland manufacturers CX conventional combines, self-propelled forage harvesters and large square balers for the U.S. market. The New Holland history in Zedelgem started in 1906 when Leon Claeys founded his company to produce stationary threshers. Today, New Holland employs more than 2,500 people in Zedelgem, and they focus on the design, development and manufacturing of harvesting equipment. Ninety-eight percent of the combines, balers and self-propelled forage harvesters are exported.
Located adjacent to the factory, the new customer center has been expanded to total almost 33,000 sq. feet, and it will welcome more than 5,000 visitors every year. The large showroom can accommodate up to 17 machines, and each program can be tailored to the visiting group. The auditorium is equipped for full multimedia presentations. And visitors can spend time in the gift shop. In the future, the company plans to open exhibits and trainings to further showcase its engineering and manufacturing.
To maximize the tonnage in every bale, the new BigBaler provides up to 20% increase in capacity and 5% denser bales. The two models– BigBaler 330 and BigBaler 340– produces 3'x3' and 3'x4' bales, respectively.
The MaxiSweep pickup has been completely redesigned featuring a full-width feed assist roller with paired overshot-undershot augers at both ends to pull in material to ensure all of the crop is safely baled. For continuous smooth crop flow from the swath to the baler a standard roller windguard has been added to pre-compress the crop mat before the pickup tines and prevents crop flow disturbance for uniform bales.
The BigBaler’s SmartFill flake formation system uses a pair of sensors, situated at the entrance to the pre-compression chamber that monitors the flow of crop into the chamber, to guarantee square-edged bales of uniform side-to-side density. This information is displayed on the IntelliView in-cab monitor, if one side is over-filling segmented bar graphs combined with colored, large on-screen arrows alert the operator.
To enable faster baling, the all-new, heavy-duty gearbox has enabled a 14% increase in the plunger speed for higher throughput into the bale chamber.
In addition to the Standard crop processing system, the BigBaler offers two CropCutter systems: the PackerCutter and RotorCutter. The BigBaler 330 with the PackerCutter system cuts silage, hay or straw, with cut lengths as small as 4.5". The Rotor Cutter system is available either BigBaler model and offers the widest range of chop lengths. The Rotor Cutter system is available in two cut length configurations, delivering as small as 1.5" on the short cut configuration or 1" on the medium cut version.
Optional CropSaver and CropID systems provide an effective method for preserving high-quality hay and tracking it from field to feed.
For alternative applications, The BigBaler’s design will perform in crops such as sugar cane and corn stover.
With five new models the FR Series Forage Cruisers deliver between 424-824 hp and are built with an all-new chopper body and powerful blowing performance.
The paddle type blower has increased the mass of smooth flowing air by a full 40% to transport higher volumes of crop more efficiently and to reduce the risk of crop accumulation in the chopper body area.
Pickup speed has been significantly increased thanks to the addition of a supplementary tine bar, which enables higher ground speeds. When working in muddy fields, the pickup support wheels prevent bulldozing and maintain uniform header height.
All models in the FR range are fully compatible with a wide range of headers. The new 300FP grass pick-up was developed for higher speed, ultra-reliable, smooth harvesting in all conditions with a 12.5’-wide pickup.
The operator platform has been widened with sculpted hand rails for safe entry and exit late at night and after long working days. The one-piece side panels open wide on self-supporting gas struts for easy servicing access. Daily maintenance has been further simplified courtesy of significant advances in feed roll packaging. The entire area has been sealed with the addition of precision placed plates which form a protective seal around the feed roller to prevent the build-up of debris, which can substantially reduce time-consuming daily cleaning.
The IntelliFill technology enables the operator to accurately fill the trailer with minimal losses, even when visibility is limited. A 3D camera mounted under the spout guides the crop flow into the trailer, ensuring a uniform fill.
Accurate yield mapping can enhance yields and improve customer service–Fully integrated yield mapping reporting allows information to be downloaded from the FR and analyzed using New Holland PLM software so that custom harvesters can provide customers with accurate reports on their field performance.
New Holland CR Series Twin Rotor and CX8000 Series Super-Conventional combines can be paired with the new 840CD rigid draper head. Designed for harvesting cereals, grains, rice and other specialty crop, the 840CD rigid draper is available in cutting widths of 25’, 30’, 35’, 40’ and 45’. The 25’ 30’, and 35’ heads feature a single-span, plastic-tine pickup reel while two larger models use a dual-span reel with plastic tines. For harvesting rice, 25’ single-span and 30’ or 35’ dual-span steel tine reel options are also available. An optional upper-cross auger is available for harvesting bushy crops such as peas or canola.
The 840CD head features the patented New Holland SynchroKnife drive–a center knife-drive system. The double knife drive gearbox is driven by a single hydraulic motor and is mounted in the center of the head. This system works on the same basis as the two opposing knife drives used in larger heads, but eliminates the vibrations they can cause by continually keeping the opposing knifes perfectly synchronized. The new drive also eliminates complex drivelines, reducing maintenance needs and saving power while reducing end shield width to minimize run down of standing un-cut crop.
Variable-speed outer draper belts and fixed-speed twin 41.6" center draper belts deliver the crop smoothly to the floating 26" diameter auger. The auger features five-inch flighting to handle heavy crop and feed it smoothly into the combine. A flat auger floor angle aids crop flow and the auger can be adjusted up and down, to match crop.
For ease in moving the head from field to field, an optional integrated low-speed transport system is available. The system uses wheels that fold down hydraulically from the combine cab with a hitch attached by hand so the header can be towed with the combine. A process that used to require two people, a trailer and a tow vehicle can now be handled by one person.
