When calibrating the yield monitor on your combine, follow manufacturer instructions and do them in the proper order, says Farm Journal associate field agronomist Missy Bauer in Episode 11 of Corn College TV Season 3.
"The two main important parts of our calibration are going to be moisture and grain weight," Bauer says. "For the moisture, what we’re going to do is start a new load in the combine and monitor harvest, several thousand pounds. Auger it out, catch the samples, and then test those samples. We’re going to test usually about five different samples and take an average of that. Then we’re going to plug that moisture number into the monitor."
