John Deere introduces a new telemetry system, two new GreenStar displays, a next-generation StarFire receiver, implement guidance and surface water management tools.

The JDLink telematics system remotely connects equipment owners, farm managers and dealers to equipment in the field. The system allows for real-time alerts and other operating information to be accessed on a Web site or via e-mail or text.

For 2011, two packages are available. JDLink Select includes roadmap/satellite map and driving directions, machine hours, geofencing, curfew alerts, maintenance management, machine performance profile and Service Advisor Remote on approved platforms. JDLink Ultimate includes all these features in addition to machine status and comparison, advanced machine performance, customer alerts, export/scheduled e-mail report, remote diagnostics via trouble codes and system usage information.

The new telematics system hardware includes a communications modem/controller, wiring harness and cellular and GPS antennas. Machine data is collected by the controller and wirelessly transferred to the data server. An optional satellite communications module is available for data transfer in remote areas.

The GreenStar 3 family of displays is capable of running AutoTrac and Swath Control Pro, and some models feature video capability. The GreenStar 3 CommandCenter is a standard feature of the new 8R Series tractors and is available with an optional touch screen. The GreenStar 3 2630 Display features a faster processor, ISOBUS connectivity, increased memory, touch-screen and video capabilities, Access Manager functions, USB data transfer, improved field locator functionality, standby mode and increased screen visibility.

The StarFire 3000 Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) receiver replaces the StarFire iTC receiver. The StarFire 3000 is compatible with the StarFire 450 RTK and 900 RTK radios as well as GPS and GLONASS satellite signals. The receiver detects changes in roll, pitch and yaw of the vehicle and adjusts its position relative to the ground to provide terrain compensation response.
 
The receiver’s performance is improved in shaded conditions because StarFire 3000 automatically tracks weak satellite signals and acquires new ones. The need to manually type in activation codes is eliminated with wireless activation and subscription renewals. LED lights on the unit notify the
operator of any problems.

To manage surface water movement and improve implement guidance, John Deere unveils iSteer and iGrade.

iGrade is a GPS-based system that lets operators build and maintain their own field surface water management structures, using many of the same components that they use during crop production. iGrade automates the control of the tractor’s scraper blade for basic grade and slope design, distance-based hydraulic commands and Surface Water Pro Plus automation. It uses an RTK correction signal, so it can be quicker to set up than lasers and is accurate up to 1 mile.

iSteer provides active implement guidance to increase accuracy and repeatability in straight-track field applications. iSteer consists of a receiver and a hydraulic steering system, both attached to an implement, that enable the implement to automatically correct its position in the field independently of the tractor’s guidance line. It is integrated with approved John Deere tractors and requires a StarFire RTK system to operate. The implement must also have its own RTK receiver and hydraulic steering system.
