In 2011, global ethanol production is expected to reach 88.7 billion liters, according to a recent report Global Renewable Fuels Alliance (GRFA) and F.O. Licht. This amount of ethanol production will replace the need for 1 million barrels of crude oil per day worldwide, says the report.
The GRFA predicts a growth of over 3% in global production in 2011, up from 85.8 billion liters in 2010.
The U.S. continues to be the largest ethanol producer in the world with production levels expected to reach over 51 billion liters (13.5 billion gallons) in 2011.
U.S. ethanol production will eliminate the need for more than 212 million barrels of imported crude oil worth $21 billion in 2011,” says Bliss Baker, Global Renewable Fuels Alliance spokesperson.
The African continent is forecast to produce 170 million liters in 2011, up 5 million liters from last year and more than 60 million liters from 2009. Europe is expected to produce 5.4 billion liters of ethanol this year which is a 15% increase over 2010.
