Wheat Yield Expert Talks Residue Management

Residue management is a critical part of crop production, says Phil Needham, high-yield wheat expert and presenter at the inaugural hands-on Wheat College this week near McPherson, Kan.

"We need to be able to spread residue as consistently as possible at harvest time," Needham says. "For most producers, they do a good job, and some need to improve."

Having a good straw chopper is key to that process. Ahead of planting next season, factors to consider include seeding systems and depths, and seed treatments.
