Exports Below Expectations

Dec 30, 2010

Kansas City wheat futures traded lower today, continuing some profit taking that began in yesterday's session and feeling pressure from lower-than-anticipated wheat export sales, according to traders.

The USDA estimated wheat exports at 438,500 metric tonnes, including 431,400 metric tonnes of old crop and 7,100 metric tonnes of new crop wheat. Previous estimates ranged from 450,000 to 650,000 metric tonnes.

In other export business, Iraq is tendering for 100,000 metric tonnes of wheat, Turkey is in for 300,000 metric tonnes, and Bangladesh is tendering for 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat, traders said.

Jobless claims released this morning were the lowest since July of 2008, traders added.

KC Wheat Trades Higher

Dec 13, 2010

Kansas City wheat futures traded higher this morning, bouncing off of lows that were met in Friday's session, according to traders.  The U.S. Dollar was trading lower this morning in reaction to news that China will not raise interest rates, contrary to what was reported on Friday, traders said.  Brazil received some rain over the weekend, and there is more in the next four to seven day forecast.  Concerns about quality of wheat in Australia due to excess moisture continue to support wheat futures, traders said.

Concerns Regarding Lack of Milling Quality Wheat

Dec 08, 2010

Kansas City wheat futures traded both sides of unchanged this morning, opening lower on follow-through from yesterday's session, according to traders.

The U.S. Dollar traded firmer this morning, also weighing on opening prices.  Wheat prices bounced higher after a lack of follow-through selling and followed a turn higher in corn futures, traders said.

Concerns regarding a lack of milling quality wheat in the world continues to influence strength in the marketplace, traders added.  Some rain fell overnight in Western Kansas but in minimal amounts, traders said.
