When I see a Chihuahua, Shih Tzu or any of the small dogs a friend of mine lovingly refers to as ‘puntables” I am hard pressed to see any link with these creatures and the Canis lupus, otherwise known as the wolf from which all dogs supposedly originated. If I were a wolf I certainly wouldn’t admit to being even remotely related to some of the now popular breeds of Canis lupus familiaris. Let’s face it, would Little Red Riding Hood even remotely be terrified of “The Big Bad Pomeranian?” Would the three little pigs have been blown away by a puny little Pekingese? I think not. Let’s face it, civilization has reduced the once furry, feared and pointy eared villain of so many fairy tales into a laughingstock. If I was a wolf it would make me very Grimm indeed.
