Follow Me!!!
May 29, 2011
Well, I went and did it. Yep, I finally broke down. After procrastinating for months and months, I succumbed to curiosity and temptation. Putting my fear aside, I have stepped off into the abyss and there is no turning back. You’re just dying to know what it is that I did, right? Well, I’ll tell you. I tweeted. ("You have a Twitter account?!" my oldest son asked me the other day. It’s fun to still be able to show the kids that I am not completely stuck in the last century!) Yes, I sent my first tweet. Shocking, isn’t it? The truth is I had registered for a Twitter account well over a year ago and just never took the time to learn much about it. Over the course of the last year, I would receive periodic emails telling me that "so-and-so is now following me on Twitter." Anyone who knows me also knows that following me is unwise, especially when I am driving, as I get lost even when using my GPS. Then, last March, when I was speaking to a very bright group of agri-journalism students at Texas A&M (GO AGGIES!), one of the students very graciously volunteered to assist me (aka "help me get off my butt") with my social networking skills. Still, even after her help, it took me almost two months to send my first tweet. Now, I know this is not as great an achievement as Samuel Morse tapping out the first telegraphic message or Alexander Graham Bell making the first phone call, but hey,I’ll bet they never tweeted, right? So if you’d like to follow me on Twitter, click here: RubesCartoons. Just don’t follow too closely; I’m liable to make a wrong turn.
