Filling out a simple spreadsheet can really help you get a handle on operation’s costs and profit potential. Download my Cost of Production worksheet, which helps you determine the number of bushels you need to produce, per acre, to cover or exceed your costs.
Just plug in your name, total acres, the crop and your market price and yield goals.
Then, you can fill in all of your expenses, on a per-acre basis. Also, be sure to include your return to management costs, which is how much money you want to make in that given year.
The spreadsheet will automatically calculate your total expenses, gross profit and return on investment. Then you can start adjusting your market price or yield levels, and it automatically updates everything
