How Did That Get in My Lunchbox?
Feb 03, 2012
A new book helps children learn where their food comes from. Chris Butterworth’s book How Did That Get in My Lunchbox? The Story of Food was named the 2012 American Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture (AFBFA) Book of the Year award winner. Through the book, children are taken on a journey to learn how their food is grown and how each of the items common in their lunchbox came to be. The book also highlights farming, food safety and nutrition.

Butterworth says he began writing books for children when his own children were small and he couldn’t find books he wanted them to read. He says there is always something new to learn, and writing books for children is the best way to discover things he didn’t know about.
This is the fifth year that AFBFA has named a Book of the Year. The program began as an effort to compile a
database of books about agriculture that are accurate. The
database now includes more than 400 books.
