Just a Coffee Shop on Steroids!
Feb 03, 2011
Do you enjoy catching up on the news, markets and farming discussions with other farmers? If so, Twitter is for you! A farmer in Nebraska told me the best way to describe Twitter... “Twitter is just like one big coffee shop. It’s great I can catch news, markets and trade other farming ideas with farmers across the country,”
@cornfedfarmer. I know that technology can sometimes be frustrating, so this blog series is dedicated to helping you figure it out how to use Twitter. Every Thursday we will cover a new Twitter topic until you have all the Twitter knowledge you can stand!
Today we are setting up a Twitter account. The sign up process is relatively simple. Go to
Twitter.com, it will look like this:

Next click sign up and your screen should look like this:

Fill in all of the information. **Quick Tip** your user name should be easily associated with you, if you use another social media platform consistency is important, otherwise any variation of your name or the name of your farm work great. Then click “Create my Account” your screen should look like this:

The column on the right hand side give you all the first steps to using your Twitter account including instructions for following people, setting up Twitter on your phone, how to personalize your profile etc. The left side of the screen is where your Twitter feed will appear after you start following people.
You’re now ready to post your first Tweet! This is how you post a message:
Simply type in the box under the question what’s happening and then click the “Tweet” button. Don’t forget you only get 140 characters!
Next week we will learn how to set up searches... No more searching for news, the news will find you!
