Deadline Approaching to Comment on Department of Labor On-Farm Regulations

The National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) is extremely concerned that the proposed regulations affecting on-farm child labor will adversely impact farming and ranching operations and stifle the desire of young people to work in agriculture.
As young people explore career opportunities, hands-on experience on farming and ranching operations is invaluable to sparking interest in agriculture, according to NCBA Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall. If these regulations go into effect as proposed, he says, the ability of young people to work on farms and ranches and even participate in youth activities such as 4-H and FFA could be severely hindered.
Woodall says the comment period on the proposed regulations is nearing its Dec. 1, 2011, deadline. He urges everyone involved in production agriculture to inform DOL of the unintended consequences that would occur as a result of these regulations.
