2010 Top Producer of the Year
We’re unlocking the mystery and getting inside the heads of Top Producer of the Year winners, with the hopes that you’ll pick up some tips to incorporate into your own farm. We asked Donny DeLine, the 2010 winner, what he knows now that he wishes he knew 30 years ago.
Relationships are key to success. Get to know the right people. Listen to neighbors and farmers who have been in business for years, and work to build relationships versus just trying to offer the highest bid. If you surround yourself with good people, it’s hard to fail.
You have to think outside of the box and get involved in organizations off the farm. If you can’t get involved at the state or national levels, get involved in your community with 4-H or FFA. This will only help in your relationship building. If you work to build the right relationships, that’s half the battle.
It takes a lifetime to build a good reputation and only a few minutes to ruin it. Stick to your word and treat people right.
