Missy Bauer Answers a Farmer’s Question

In Episode 5 of Corn College TV, Farm Journal Associate Field Agronomist Missy Bauer explains that it’s really never too late to check your planting depth.

“Go out with spade and dig up samples. Take all the dirt and soil off,” she says. “Look for the seed root and mesocotyl. You can tell where the seed was by the bump. That’s attached to the mesocotyl, which is attached to the crown root. Take a measuring tape, measure the length and add ¾”. This adds up to the planting depth.”
