announced on the Farmers Feeding the World website.

Farmers Feeding the World’s traveling educational exhibit tour kicks off "inside the track" during the popular Indianapolis 500 and continues at events throughout the summer (see the schedule below).

The exhibit will help consumers understand U.S. agriculture’s role in addressing mankind’s expanding food requirements—now and in the future.

This engaging presentation takes a very complex issue and focuses on a few understandable and compelling subjects to create widespread awareness that we are challenged with the task of producing more food with fewer resources to keep up with a burgeoning population.

Agricultural surveys through the years:

1791

President Washington writes to local farmers requesting information on land values, crops, yields, livestock prices and taxes, in effect creating the first agricultural survey.

1839

Congress votes to fund the first agricultural census.

1862

USDA was established.

1863

Annual agricultural surveys begin; USDA’s division of statistics is established; monthly crop reports begin.

1905

USDA statistics employee admits to using window blinds to signal unreleased market information to trading partners.

1909

Congress passes a law making premature disclosure of crop estimates a crime punishable by fine.

2011

USDA–National Agricultural Statistics Service will release 425 reports.
