Cargill Announces It Will Acquire Northstar Grain LLC Assets

Cargill officials say they have reached an agreement to acquire the grain storage and crop inputs assets of Northstar Grain LLC and associated properties in Decatur, Mich. Northstar was previously owned by Mike Stamp.

A land auction, which includes 2,200 acres of farmland in 26 parcels, a large shop and storage building and three homes on smaller acreage, will be held March 27 at noon in Lawton, Mich.
 

Stamp Farms LLC Sold for $22.8 million

Some stories create more questions than answers. Such was the case with 2012 Top Producer of the Year finalist Mike Stamp. In November, Stamp Farms had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. In December, Wells Fargo (the largest secured creditor who is owed $60 million) filed an ominous injunction that alleged massive grain fraud, but later withdrew that motion. What exactly was going on, and what would become of the prime Michigan farmland Stamp had been farming?

Stamp Farms Declares Bankruptcy

Top Producer learned today that Stamp Farms LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Friday, Nov. 30, along with affiliate companies Stamp Farms Custom Ag LLC and Stamp Farms Trucking LLC. Estimated liabilities exceed $50 million, with more than 200 total creditors cited in the bankruptcy filings. Monsanto was the largest creditor listed, with a $3.9 million claim.
