NOVEMBER 18, 2013

RFS LEVELS:

GOOD MORNING I'M CLINTON GRIFFITHS. AFTER WEEKS OF RUMORS AND SPECULATION, THE EVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY ROLLED OUT ITS PLANS FOR RENEWABLE FUELS IN 2014.

ETHANOL REAX:

A PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD WILL NOW BEGIN, ALLOWING INTERESTED PARTIES - SUCH AS ETHANOL AND OIL INDUSTRIES - TO RESPOND THE LEVELS. PRO-ETHANOL GROUPS ARE NOT PLEASED WITH THE PROPOSED RULE FROM EPA. BUT THE LIVESTOCK SECTOR THINKS IT'S A MOVE IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. DURING A FARM BROADCASTER CONVENTION LAST WEEK IN KANSAS CITY, WE HEARD FROM NUMEROUS GROUPS WHO ARE KEEPING A CLOSE EYE ON DEVELOPMENTS.

LAND VALUES:

FALLING CROP PRICES HAVE TEMPERED THE OUTLOOK OF FARMLAND VALUES IN THE NEAR FUTURE. SEVERAL OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE BANK DISTRICTS RELEASED THEIR QUARTERLY RECAPS ON FRIDAY. THOSE OUTLOOKS ARE BASED ON SURVEYS WITH RURAL BANKERS.

CROP WATCH:

MANY FARMERS ARE JUST HAPPY TO PUT THE LAST TWO YEARS BEHIND THEM.
BUT FOR SOME FOLKS THE WEATHER WORRIES CONTINUE.
MIKE HOFFMAN HAS DETAILS IN THIS MORNING'S CROP WATCH. HEY THERE MIKE. GOOD MORNING.

MACHINERY PETE:

IT'S MONDAY MORNING AND THAT MEANS MACHINERY PETE CHECKS-IN FROM HIS OFFICES IN MINNESOTA. TODAY HE TALKS ABOUT TRENDS ON USED COMBINES.

ANALYSIS:

WHILE HARVEST FINISHES UP, MANY EXPERTS SAY NOW'S NOT THE TIME TO RELAX.
THERE'S ALREADY PLANNING TO BEGIN FOR 2014. FARM DIRECTOR AL PELL TAKES ON NEXT YEAR IN OUR MORNING'S ANALYSIS.

IVORY CRUSH:

THE U.S. DESTROYED MORE THAN 6 TONS OF CONFISCATED IVORY IN COLORADO LAST WEEK. IT REASON-- TO SEND A MESSAGE TO THE $10 BILLION DOLLAR GLOBAL TRADE.
IT'S A MARKET IS LINKED TO THE SLAUGHTER OF TENS OF THOUSANDS OF ELEPHANTS EACH YEAR.

FDA WARNING:

THE U.S. FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION JUST ANNOUNCED PLANS TO BAN THE USE OF TRANSFATS IN THE AMERICAN DIET. NOW IT'S WARNING OF ANOTHER FOOD CHEMICAL--AND ASKING CONSUMERS TO WATCH WHAT THEY EAT.

FROZEN FOOD STUDY:

IF YOU'RE GOING TO BE EATING MORE FRUITS AND VEGETABLES A NEW STUDY SUGGESTS TO THINK FROZEN...RATHER THAN FRESH.
