The submission process for Monsanto's "Farm Mom of the Year" contest ends soon.
Friends and family of American farm moms are encouraged to submit their nominations no later than April 23, when the entry deadline for Monsanto's "Farm Mom of the Year" contest closes. Five regional winners selected by May 1 will each receive $5,000, while the top mom selected by online voting will be announced on Mother’s Day and receive an additional $5,000.
"More than 30% of farm operators in this country are female, and this annual contest is one small way that Monsanto can honor them and applaud them for growing our crops, our economy and our way of life," says Lisa Safarian, U.S. row crops lead, Monsanto.
Listen to an interview with Debbie Lyons-Blythe, 2012 Farm Mom of the Year:
To proceed with a nomination, participants must go to www.AmericasFarmers.com and submit an entry letter of 300 words or fewer explaining how their farm mom "contributes to her family, farm, community and the agricultural industry," Monsanto says. The judging process will be led by American Agri-Women.
To view eligibility requirements and official rules, go to www.AmericasFarmers.com or send a self-addressed stamped envelope to America’s Farmers Mom of the Year, Attn: Nancy Hallahan, 914 Spruce Street, St. Louis, MO 63102.
The contest is part of Monsanto’s America’s Farmers program, an advocacy program for U.S. farmers and agriculture.
"My favorite part of being the Farm Mom of the Year was the opportunity to spotlight other farm moms," says Debbie Lyons-Blythe, 2012 National Farm Mom of the Year. "I encourage everyone to take a moment; write an essay; and nominate your mother, grandmother, or a special person in your life."
