Yield Pop announces that it has struck a deal for exclusive online rights to FIRST trial results to provide farmers with a uniquely interactive seed selection experience, says Matthew Perkins, Yield Pop CEO.
"Currently, we have an unparalleled database of more than 100,000 field trials testing more than 5,000 products during the past five years, including 10,000 corn and bean trial results from the 2013 harvest," he explains. "Producers can search this data and find the top-performing soybean varieties and corn hybrids. In addition, for subscribers of our pro account, we’ve layered some powerful analytics over the top to help producers find out which products consistently outperform their peers."
Perkins says the intent is to create an "Expedia for seeds," where instead of narrowing results for an airplane flight or hotel room, farmers can filter seed options by location and various specific agronomic factors to drill down to the seed products that are most relevant to them.
"You can look at the data based on how you farm," says Kevin Coey, FIRST founder and owner. "You still have to pick up the phone and develop relationships with seed companies, but you’ll have a better idea of what to ask about when you do."
A separate section of www.YieldPop.com links to a broad set of crop protection label information. Perkins says he hopes by next season to tie the seeds and chemical sections of the website together.
"If we know what seed the farmer chooses, we can follow up with crop protection recommendations and start making agronomic tips throughout the season," he says. "We’re excited to see how this will evolve."
