Agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested two dairy farm owners in Michigan Wednesday, alleging the couple failed to fully and accurately complete I-9 forms for new hires.
Taken into custody were Johannes and Anthonia VerHaar, Bad Axe, Mich., reports the Huron Daily Tribune.
The raid was reminiscent of previous enforcement actions, with numerous vehicles and even a helicopter. But this time, rather than arrest employees, ICE arrested the owners on charges that they “encouraged and induced an alien to reside in the United States in violation of the law.”
The Verhaars milk 2,500 cows and have nearly two dozen employees. None of the employees were arrested.
