TODAY ON AGDAY

NOVEMBER 12, 2013

WASHINGTON UPDATE:

THE PRESSURE IS ON IN WASHINGTON TO GET MAJOR LEGSILATION PASSED. AND THAT'S OUR TOP STORY ON AGDAY.

LATE SUNFLOWER HARVEST:

THE USDA CROP PROGRESS REPORT WON'T BE COMING OUT TODAY DUE TO VETERANS DAY.
AS OF LAST WEEK SUNFLOWER HARVEST WAS RUNNING BEHIND BY NEARLY 30 POINTS.
THE BIGGEST DELAYS ARE IN NORTH AND SOUTH DAKOTA.

NORTH DAKOTA SNOW:

SNOW FELL ACROSS MUCH OF NORTH DAKOTA TWO WEEKS AGO. THE WEIGHT OF THE SNOW IN THE SUNFLOWER HEADS TOOK MUCH OF THIS CROP RIGHT TO THE GROUND.
CLIFF NAYLOR RETURNED TO THE FARM ONCE THE SNOW MELTED AND HARVESTERS STARTED TO ROLL.

SUNFLOWER HARVEST:

AS OF THE NOVEMBER 4TH REPORT, ABOUT A THIRD OF THE SUNFLOWER CROP WAS HARVEST. IT'S USUALLY OVER 60-PERCENT. WHILE CUTTING THE OILSEEDS ARE SLOW IN THE DAKOTA'S. HARVEST IN COLORADO AND KANSAS IS RUNNING AHEAD OF THE FIVE YEAR AVERAGE.

CROP WATCH:

WHILE SOME FARMERS ARE FINALLY ABLE TO SAY HARVEST 13 IS IN THE BOOKS, OTHERS ARE HOPING THIS WEEK'S SNOW STAYS AWAY. MIKE HOFFMAN HAS DETAILS IN CROPWATCH.

ORANGE PRODUCTION:

THE U-S IS LOOKING AT ITS SMALLEST ORANGE CROP IN 25 YEARS. THAT'S ACCORDING TO THE USDA'S CROP PRODUCTION REPORT RELEASED FRIDAY. AND THE NEWS SPURRED ORANGE JUICE PRICES TO JUMP UP MORE THAN 6 DOLLARS IN ONE DAY.

DAIRY TODAY MILK PRICES:

IN DAIRY TODAY, DESPITE THE IMPROVED OUTLOOK ON FEED COSTS, SOME ECNOMISTS PREDICT DAIRY FARMERS WILL EXPERIENCE ANOTHER VOLATILE YEAR. DAIRY TODAY EDITOR JIM DICKRELL JOINS US NOW TO EXPLAIN WHY THE CURVE ON MILK PRICES WILL CONTINUE TO BE ALL OVER THE BOARD.
PILOT FINE:

IN AGRIBUSINESS TODAY, A CROPDUSTER MISHAP THIS SUMMER HAS RESULTED IN A SMALL FINE.

BRIAN DAIRY:

EARLIER WE HEARD FROM DAIRY TODAY'S JIM DICKRELL WHO SAID DAIRY PRODUCERS SHOULD GET READY FOR WHAT SOME SAY WILL BE ANOTHER VOLATILE YEAR
WE'RE BUILDING OFF THAT IN TODAY'S ANALYSIS. ONE ANALYST TELLS AL PELL PRODUCERS SHOULD SIEZE SOME OF THESE OPPORTUNITIES WHILE THEY LAST.

CAVE OWNER:

WHILE WE USUALLY TALK ABOUT THE VALUE OF THE LAND IN MINNESOTA AND IOWA AS PREMIUM, ONE MAN FINDS MORE VALUE UNDER THE LAND. AND WE'RE NOT TALKING ABOUT MINERAL RIGHTS. IN FACT, THE VALUE THAT JOHN ACKERMAN SEES IS THE MASSIVE VOID.
TOM RITCHIE HAS DETAILS.

NORTHWEST ONIONS:

IN FOOD AND YOUR FAMILY, TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FOODBORNE ILLNESS, FDA REVEALED NEW STANDSARDS FOR PRODUCER FARMS. HOWEVER RESEARCHERS AT OREGON UNIVERSITY SAY DRY BULB ONIONS POSE NO E. COLI RISK AND SHOULD BE EXEMPT.

POSTAL SERVICE:

IN FOOD AND YOUR FAMILY, FOR YEARS THERE'S ONLY BEEN ONE DAY A WEEK WHERE YOU KNOW YOUR BELOVED MAILMAN OR MAILWOMAN WILL BE PAYING YOU A VISIT. AND EARLIER THIS YEAR, THAT WAS AT THE RISK OF BECOMING TWO. WELL, A NEW BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY FOR the U-S POSTAL SERVICE COULD GIVE THE FEDERAL EMPLOYER AN ECONOMIC BOOST, WHILE BRINGING ORDERS TO YOUR 7 DAYS A WEEK.
