John writes humor and commentary pieces in his column "John's World
," which appear regularly in Farm Journal and Top Producer, a sister publication of Farm Journal Media. He has been writing for Farm Journal since 1995. In 2005, John assumed the position of host of U.S. Farm Report
, the nation's longest-running TV show. Also in 2005 he began "John's World
” – a unique weblog for those who farm and those who like farms. The American Agricultural Editors Association has awarded John's writing with the Best Humor, Best Regular Column, Best Editorial Opinion and Writer of the Year awards.
John was raised on a six-generation farm in east-central Illinois. He graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering and a minor in economics in 1970. John has worked as a nuclear engineering officer aboard the USS SEAHORSE, sold computers and software to farmers, worked in a mortgage banking operation as a closing officer and taught at the Danville Area Community College. He returned to his family farm in 1975.
John and his wife Jan have two sons. Their farm is located in Edgar County, Ill. In addition to farming and writing, John speaks often to farm and business groups and is involved in many community activities on the local, state and national level.
