Keeping the Wolves at Bay

Wolves in Washington have been equipped with GPS-collars to help ranchers, state officials and conservationists track the movements of wolf packs. Along with the GPS-collared wolves there are also three range riders who monitor the wolves with a laptop and then ride through remote pastures to check on cattle grazing in wolf territory. Rancher John Dawson lost seven calves the first year wolves were back in his area, the following year thanks to the collars and range riders Dawson brought back 100 percent of his herd.
