Feeder Prices Up in Springfield, MO

Feeder prices remained steady Wednesday at Springfield Livestock in Springfield, Mo. Steers under 550 lb. were steady, 550 lb. to 700 lb. steers were up $3 to $5 and steers over 700 lb. were $2 higher.
Once infused with dairy operations, there were a lot of Holsteins in the barn Wednesday, capturing steady prices.
That’s good new for cattlemen and dairymen in that area. Like part-owner Tonto Kissee and Jack Frost says, southwest Missouri is cattle country. Few grain crops are grown in this area, but there is a lot of hay produced on fertile pasture land. Cooler summer temperatures and plentiful rain has resulted in good grazing conditions.
As I watched the sale, and the cattle moving through the barn, I’m always amazed at the differences in the animals—not just color, shape or size. But also the management styles of the way animals are raised and each operation’s marketing strategy.
